Working with me

The relationships I’ve established with most clients have lasted long after the completion of the first project. Whether updating print pieces, extending brand identity to other applications or taking on brand-new challenges, these long-term relationships have yielded some great results.

A lot of new clients are unfamiliar with working with a graphic designer and have questions about how the process works. I hope that this page will give you some insight into working with me on a project.

If you’re interested in working with me, please call or email me to discuss your needs. We can talk about your project and decide if we’re a good fit for each other.

DEFINING THE PROBLEM
My first step in working with you will be to learn all I can about you, and to clearly define what you are trying to accomplish. This can be done in-person or remotely. We'll talk about who you are and what your goals are, in an effort to clearly define the design problem. I’ve also developed a short ‘design brief’ questionnaire that helps to quickly provide some direction for certain types of projects, which I may ask you to complete before we meet.

FINDING THE SOLUTION
My design process at this point usually involves pencil sketching, jotting notes, noodling ideas and seeing where it goes. This is the really fun part. Ideas are then evaluated and altered, variations sketched and more ideas explored, to see which ideas rise above the rest. Then I'll typically move to the computer and start exploring some of the ideas that show the most promise. After this I might end up with several concepts to share with you.

INVOLVING YOU IN THE DESIGN
As my client, you’ll find yourself closely involved in the design process, with opportunity to provide input and feedback. Depending on the scope of a project, I might present rough ideas at several stages, narrowing and focusing the design direction as we move along.

Design reviews generally happen online or via e-mail and phone conversations. The design will then be gradually focused and refined to a final design solution.

WRAPPING IT UP
With your final approval, I will then produce the final product, whether it be press-ready files for a print piece, or files for use on your website.

While I don't provide printing services, I have great working relationships with many printers, and I'd be happy to recommend a printer that would be a good fit for your job. I'm also happy to work with your preferred printer.

AN ONGOING PARTNERSHIP
The relationships I’ve established with most clients have lasted long after the completion of the first project. Whether updating print pieces, extending brand identity to other applications or taking on brand-new challenges, these long-term relationships have yielded some great results.
